The Excellence A2 pairs a full-metal spring-loaded clip with a cap that closes with a soft sliding click on the fountain pen and rollerball. At 47 g, the fountain pen is one of the heavier pens in the Diplomat range. It is made in Cunewalde, Saxony, as a fountain pen, capped rollerball, ballpoint and mechanical pencil.

The fountain pen has a JoWo stainless steel nib in extra fine, fine, medium or broad and comes with a converter and two standard international ink cartridges. The rollerball takes a standard international capped rollerball refill. The ballpoint and pencil both work with a twist of the barrel, taking a Parker-style G2 king-size refill and 0.7 mm HB leads. Every Excellence A2 comes in a case for three writing instruments and carries a five-year manufacturer warranty.
