Choosing a Fountain Pen
Nib material
The fountain pens here come with stainless steel nibs or 14K solid gold nibs. Each product page lists the nib material and the widths it comes in.
Nib width
Extra Fine and Fine suit small handwriting and everyday notes. Medium is the most popular all-round width. Broad lays down a wider, wetter line that shows off more of the ink's color.
How it fills
Cartridge pens take standard international ink cartridges, and with a converter they fill from a bottle. Piston fillers, such as the Delta Bio+16 and the Maiora Everest, draw ink straight from the bottle and usually hold more ink than a converter. Each product page says how that pen fills.
Questions
Which ink should I use in a fountain pen?
Use ink made for fountain pens, such as Diplomat bottled ink. Drawing inks and calligraphy inks are made for dip pens.
How do I know if a pen takes cartridges or fills from a bottle?
Each product page says how the pen fills: standard international cartridges, a converter for bottled ink, or a built-in piston that draws from the bottle.
